Jacob Blumenfeld
Leading the sub-project on normative foundations of socialization
Jacob Blumenfeld teaches philosophy at Humboldt University Berlin, where he is a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Social Critique. There, he co-directs with Rabea Berfelde the research project Socialization in Theory and Practice: Democratizing Access to Land and Energy, funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation. Previously, Jacob was an assistant professor of Practical Philosophy at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and a member of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre Structural Change of Property. He is the author of The Concept of Property in Kant, Fichte, and Hegel: Freedom, Right and Recognition (Routledge, 2024) and All Things Are Nothing to Me: The Unique Philosophy of Max Stirner (Zero, 2018). He is also co-editor of Umkämpftes Eigentum: Eine gesellschaftstheoretische Debatte (Suhrkamp, 2025). Jacob’s current research focuses on the normative foundations of property, democratic ecological planning, the subjective dimensions of climate change, the critical theory of Fichte, and the contemporary relevance of Günther Anders. He received his PhD from the New School for Social Research in New York.
