Leading the sub-project on the socialization of energy systems

Solveig Degen is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology of Work, Economy and Technological Change at Humboldt University in Berlin. In the research project ‘Socialization in Theory and Practice,’ she leads the sub-project on the socialisation of the energy sector. As part of her doctoral studies, she is conducting a systematic analysis of the issues surrounding market-based energy supply and state planning logics in the energy transition focussing on the EU-context. This analysis gives rise to an exploration of the possibilities and challenges for the socialisation of energy systems. In her research, she combines state sociology and political economy approaches with political theory and critical social philosophy perspectives. She previously worked at the Institute for Spatial and Social-Ecological Transformations (ISSET) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where she also completed her MSc in Social-Ecological Economics and Policy.
